Have you dreamed of attending a boutique Film Festival
with over a 20 year history?
Imagine learning from film industry experts, the leaders in their field, and watching the latest in independent & foreign film. Well, don’t just imagine it – be here! It all happens in early November at the Lake Placid Film Festival (LPFF) Student Summit.

This scholarship program targets up to twelve inspired and motivated college students to join us in this once in a lifetime opportunity.  You’ll see screenings of some of the year’s best films and  take part in a plethora of in-depth film workshops and seminars.

While there is an official application, the real requirements for this scholarship are a love of film and a will ingness to learn.
As part of the scholarship, all participants in the Summit will receive:
  • One all-access LPFF pass
  • Hotel accommodations for three (3) nights (shared with one other student of the same gender)
  • A stipend of meal and hospitality expenses
  • An exclusive Student Summit t-shirt to commemorate the event.

AS A SUMMIT STUDENT YOU WILL

View approximately a dozen feature and short film programs over the four days of the Festival
Attend in-depth workshops and seminars with filmmakers, producers, writers, and other industry experts
Explore Lake Placid, one of the most majestic and beautiful places in the country
Live and breathe film with fellow scholarship students and Summit faculty
Share your experience with LPFF passholders and film lovers from around the world

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

We are seeking across-section of college students- those who hail from both film and
non-film majors; of both geographical and cultural diversity.

The most important qualities we look for are: an ability to add to discussions with other students and LPFF special guests, a willingness to learn and participate in a rigorous schedule, and an overall passion for film. With so few slots available, it is imperative that each student fully commits to the program.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Student Summit begins on the afternoon of Thursday November 7th
and continues through the late morning of Sunday November 10th.

Expect to spend much of your time viewing and discussing films with Summit faculty, guests, and other students as well as being an active participant in the festival’s various
workshops & seminars.

Workshops & seminars, as well as films seen by the students are chosen specifically by Summit leadership to provide a well-rounded experience.

As such, these selections core to your program and are to be adhered to. Your special student pass also provides admission to the “Your Shorts Are Showing” Awards ceremony and Passholder Party.

We recommend having all files ready and saved in the formats advised below prior to filling out your application, so that they can all be uploaded at the same time.
ESSAY
Using your critical thinking skills, compose an essay on a film about which you feel strongly.

You can choose to highlight formal elements (i.e. the cinematography, editing, screenplay, etc.), but your personal connection to the film is most important. Please limit your response to 750 words or less and include your name at the top of the essay.

When completed, please save your essay as a PDF file with the title: “LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_ESSAY” and email it to noah@adirondackfilm.org.
RECOMMENDATION
have an instructor/advisor/mentor compose a letter of recommendation that attests to your student status and also explains why you would be a good fit for this summit.

The letter of recommendation should be on official campus letterhead and signed by your instructor or advisor. When completed, please save the recommendation as a PDF with the title: “STUDENT LAST NAME_STUDENT FIRST NAME_REC '' and and email it to noah@adirondackfilm.org

Alternatively, if your instructor/advisor/mentor would prefer to email the recommendation directly to us, please have them send it to Program Coordinator, Noah Ramer (noah@adirondackfilm.org) by 11:59pm on June 30th. The subject line of the email should read: “(Your Name) Student Summit Recommendation”.
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 2024 @ 11:59 P.M. EST
This program is limited to a maximum of 12 students.

Due to the volume of entries, applications must be received at or before 11:59 PM EST, June 30, 2024.
There are no exceptions and an incomplete/late application will remove your name from consideration.

Should you be accepted to the Summit and something comes up that prevents you from attending,
please notify us as soon as possible so that another student has the opportunity to take your place.
